What Are Weapon Mods in ZED ZONE?
Zed zone weapon mods divide into two classes: ranged attachments for guns, bows and air guns, and a separate melee attachment class for close-combat tools. Mods are how a mid-tier gun becomes an endgame gun without finding a new gun, and how a loud rifle becomes a quiet one. This guide covers the slot system as of version 1.0.11, last verified November 8, 2026, lists the recorded Early Access attachment roster, and flags every place where exact stat numbers are still community verification in progress.

How Many Attachment Slots Does a Weapon Have?
Official 1.0 store materials describe four attachment slots on firearms: barrel, sight, stock and shell collector, with more than forty parts available across the four slots. One part fits per slot. The practical consequence: a laser sight and a holographic sight both occupy the sight slot, so you pick one job per slot. Version 1.0 also added built-in paints and decals as cosmetic layers on top of functional parts.
Which Mods Fit the Barrel Slot?
The recorded Early Access barrel roster is the deepest slot. Parts verified from EA data:
| Barrel attachment | Weapon family | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Suppressor (.22, 9mm, LUNAR 7.62, Omega) | Firearms | Cuts noise, keeps stealth builds alive |
| 9mm short / long barrel | 9mm guns | Handling versus velocity trade |
| Rifle extended barrel | Rifles | Community verification in progress for exact stats |
| Shotgun short barrel | Shotguns | Close-range handling |
| Air gun throttle / overboost / suppress throttle valve | Air guns | Pressure behavior tuning |
A suppressor is the single highest-value mod for island play because noise pulls Dormant Hordes, and it synergizes with the stealth approach in our beginner guide.
Which Mods Fit the Sight Slot?
EA data lists laser sights in red, green and blue, red dot sights with 2x and 4x variants, holographic sights (including a 2x holographic), a PA 6x optical sight and a Hunter 8x optical sight. For night work, official 1.0 materials also name night vision and thermal sights among the forty-plus parts. Lasers speed up close targeting; optics matter more on the heavy rifles where you engage at range.
What Goes in the Stock and Shell Collector Slots?
The stock slot mixes comfort and utility: wooden stock, CTR tactical short stock and GMTECH portable stock, plus the two attachments that define air gun builds, the electric air pump and pressurized gas tank. These pair with the pump mechanic explained in our all weapons overview. The shell collector slot is the newest: 1.0 materials describe collectors that recover shells, including a Christmas-themed collector, which matters for shotguns fed on scarce shells. One part per slot applies here just like everywhere else, so an air gun build choosing between pump and tank is making a real either-or decision, not a stacking puzzle.
How Do Magazines Fit Into Mods?
Magazines sit alongside the four slots as swappable feed devices. Recorded EA capacities: .22LR magazines run 10, 12, 20, 30 and drum sizes of 55 and 110; 9mm runs 17, 30, 40 and a 60-round drum; 5.56 runs 25, 30, a 60-round drum and a 200-round belt; 7.62 runs 30, 40 and a 75-round drum; .300 Magnum and .50 BMG use 5-round boxes. Carrying one spare loaded magazine per gun is the cheapest insurance against a mid-fight jam. Full economy math lives in the ammo guide.
What About Melee Attachments?
The EA data confirms melee attachments exist as their own class, distinct from ranged parts. Specific melee part names, slot counts and stat values are community verification in progress, so we will not quote numbers we cannot source. What is safe to say: prioritize repair-cost reduction and swing-speed style upgrades on your main melee tool, because melee never runs dry and small efficiency gains compound over thousands of swings.
How Do You Install and Swap Mods?
Zed zone weapon mods install per-slot from the weapon’s inspection screen, and swapping a part replaces whatever currently occupies that slot, so pull valuable parts before scrapping or selling a gun. The one-part-per-slot rule sounds restrictive until you realize how much it simplifies decisions: you are never stacking three scopes, you are choosing one job per slot. Keep a small parts box at base with one spare of each role, suppressor, close sight, long optic, stability stock, so a new gun drop becomes a five-minute upgrade instead of a shopping trip. Part condition also degrades with use in line with the weapon’s own durability system, so inspect attachments during the same repair pass as the gun itself. Mods survive weapon swaps, which is why a rare suppressor is worth more than the rifle it arrived on.
Which Mod Setup Should You Run?
For a standard island build: suppressed barrel, red dot or laser, stability stock, plus a shell collector on shotguns. For air gun specialists: an electric air pump or pressurized gas tank in the stock slot is close to mandatory, since it feeds the pump-pressure damage loop. Sniper-flavored builds on the GM6 Lynx or Winchester want the 6x or 8x glass instead. Three playstyle shortcuts: stealth players never skip the suppressor because noise pulls Dormant Hordes; horde-mode defenders skip suppression entirely and take recoil control and drums; archers and melee mains should still keep one modded emergency gun rather than modding a whole arsenal. Exact stat deltas for every part are community verification in progress, so test in-game before scrapping parts. Parts come from military points of interest and weapon crates, and crafting flows through the workbenches chain. If a part refuses to drop, the console commands page lists how item spawning works for testing.
