FAQ

How do I beat the War Machine in ZED ZONE?
The War Machine's whole body is a valid hit zone, including the top, so it can be fought in melee from above. Dodge the ignition laser and machine gun bursts, avoid the leg AOE stomp, and kite zombies into it so the machines and the horde fight each other while you deal damage.
What does the Spider Robot drop in ZED ZONE?
As recorded during Early Access, the Spider Robot drops ten frag grenades, ten mechanical components, ten alloy components, ten metal components, ten CNC components, and one experimental robot processing unit. Patch 1.0.5 also added new drops to endgame bosses per the official announcement.
How often does the Spider Robot fire its laser?
The Spider Robot's laser cannon fires roughly once every four seconds as recorded during Early Access. The blast has two hit zones: an outer ring that grazes targets and an inner ring that kills unarmored survivors and inflicts ten burn damage per tick.

Who Are the ZED ZONE Bosses?

Two machine bosses anchor the endgame of ZED ZONE: the walking War Machine and the towering Spider Robot. Both outclass every zombie on the island, both demand preparation rather than brute force, and both carry the most valuable drop tables in the game. This guide explains how each boss fights and how to beat it, using patterns recorded during Early Access and verified for the 1.0 era as of version 1.0.11 — as with all ZED ZONE bosses content, confirm current values in-game after balance patches.

If you are still gearing up, start with the beginner guide and the best weapons tier list before attempting either fight.

How Do I Beat the War Machine?

The War Machine is the mobile fortress of ZED ZONE bosses. Its attack kit, as recorded during Early Access, combines three threats:

  • Ignition laser — a beam that sets targets on fire. Keep moving laterally; standing still against this weapon is a death sentence.
  • Machine gun — sustained ballistic fire for punishing anyone who lingers in its line of sight. Use cover and break line of sight between bursts.
  • Leg AOE — a close-range area attack around its legs, so hugging the machine carelessly will get you stomped.

The single most important fact about the War Machine: its entire body is a hit zone. Every panel takes damage, and — critically for melee builds — the top can be struck in melee. Vaulting onto the machine and hacking at it from above bypasses the leg AOE entirely, turning one of the hardest ZED ZONE bosses into a stationary damage race.

The signature strategy, though, is letting the island fight for you. The War Machine targets zombies as readily as it targets you. Kite a horde of zombies into the boss’s patrol route, stay at the edge of the engagement, and let the machines and the horde grind each other down. Finish off whichever side is left standing. This trick works because standard Infected spawn everywhere on the map, giving you endless ammunition for the tactic. See the mutants and robots guide for how special mutants behave when pulled into the same brawl.

Two warnings for this fight. First, fire spreads — the ignition laser can set grass, and your own escape path, ablaze. Second, the War Machine does not tire; long fights favor it, so bring enough ammunition or blade durability to end the engagement in one outing rather than two.

How Do I Beat the Spider Robot?

The Spider Robot is the other of the two ZED ZONE bosses: a high-health, high-damage walker built around one devastating weapon. Its laser cannon fires approximately once every four seconds (as recorded during Early Access), and the blast resolves in two hit zones:

Hit zone Effect (Early Access data)
Outer ring Grazing damage; survivable with heals
Inner ring Kills unarmored survivors outright, plus 10 burn damage per tick

Armor is therefore the dividing line between a failed attempt and a kill. Heavy armor lets you trade a hit or two; light or no armor demands perfection. Both of the recommended counters below assume you respect the four-second rhythm.

Circling tactic: the Spider Robot tracks slowly. Run circles around buildings, wrecked vehicles, or dense walls, forcing it to reposition while its laser cycle whiffs into cover. Peek out between shots — you get roughly four seconds of safe damage window per cycle — then break line of sight again. This is the lowest-gear way to kill one of the hardest ZED ZONE bosses in the game.

Range tactic: with a marksman build, fight from beyond the laser’s comfortable band and punish the recovery animation after each shot. Bring plenty of ammunition and stims.

What Do the ZED ZONE Bosses Drop?

The Spider Robot carries the richest confirmed drop table of all ZED ZONE bosses, as recorded during Early Access:

Drop Quantity
Frag grenades 10
Mechanical components 10
Alloy components 10
Metal components 10
CNC components 10
Experimental robot processing unit 1

Ten CNC components alone saves hours of machining, and the experimental robot processing unit is a rare endgame crafting piece. The War Machine’s exact drop table was not captured in our Early Access records and is marked community verification in progress.

1.0.5 additions: the official patch notes for 1.0.5 (released within the launch-week hotfix wave) state that endgame bosses received new drops. The announcement does not enumerate them, so specific new items are community verification in progress — expect fresh incentive to revisit both fights.

What Gear Should I Bring to ZED ZONE Bosses?

Preparation checklist for both fights:

  1. Heavy armor — non-negotiable against the Spider Robot’s inner ring.
  2. Ranged weapon with spare ammunition — see weapons for top picks; melee only works on the War Machine from above.
  3. Healing items and burn treatment — the laser and ignition effects stack damage-over-time.
  4. Stamina management — circling and kiting are endurance fights; buffs from the meal system added in 1.0.5 help.
  5. Clean-up tools — pulling zombies into the fight means stragglers will chase you afterward; a base-defense mindset from the base defense guide applies in the field.

ZED ZONE Bosses FAQ

Can bosses be fought in co-op? Yes — 1.0 added full online multiplayer, and both bosses can be engaged as a squad. The 1.0.10 hotfix repaired item duplication and loss bugs affecting co-op loot, so boss drops should split correctly.

Do bosses respawn? Community verification in progress — respawn timing for both machines is not confirmed in available records.

Are the bosses required to beat the game? No. The escape ending is tied to repairing the vessel on the east coast; the bosses are optional high-risk targets, though their drops make endgame crafting far easier.
